Our model for this is inspired by the Eden Alternative, a program developed by Dr. William Thomas and his wife, Judy Meyers Thomas, in the early 1990’s.
The goal of the program was to battle the loneliness, helplessness and boredom that plague the elderly in institutional settings by opening up the facilities to animals and children and giving residents a sense of purpose. Future phases will include assisted living, nursing care, Alzheimer care and hospice care.
Residents of the Willow Star Haven Adult Living Facility will be encouraged to work with the animals in the Sanctuary as well as the children seeking therapy for learning and physical disabilities. Residents who enjoy gardening can work in the vegetable and flower gardens on property.
Holistic therapies employed in the Wellness Center, exercise and nutrition training will also be available to residents of the Senior Living Facility.
